Development of the Plot

A plot is a causal sequence of events, the "why" for the things that happen in the story. The plot draws the reader into the character's lives and helps the reader understand the choices that the characters make.

What Goes into a Plot?

Exposition(rising action) is the information needed to understand a story.
It
introduces the theme, setting, characters, and circumstances at the story’s beginnings. To identify the exposition, find in the first few chapters (or pages) where the author gives a description of the setting and the mood before the action takes place.
Complication(problem) is the cause that begins the major conflict. This usually introduces the plot.
Climax is the turning point in the story that occurs when characters try to resolve the complication.
Resolution(Falling Action) is the set of events that bring the story to a close.

It's not always a straight line from the beginning to the end of a short story. But good stories always have all the plot elements in them

D. “But we spoke to the principal there and told him about you and he really wants to meet you.” p. 10

3. How do the students at Beecher Prep contribute to the development of the plot?
