I am a Yankee. I thought I would put that out there right away. My family and I have been living in Southaven, Mississippi, for almost 15 years. We moved here from New Jersey when my husband was transferred with his job. I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and spent my childhood there eating pretzels, cheesesteaks, and Tastykakes. I root for the Philadelphia Phillies, Eagles, 76ers, and the Flyers. I moved to New Jersey when I was a teenager and met my husband Matt there. I have two daughters and one son. Madison is a graduate of Mississippi State and Celia is a graduate of the University of Memphis. Matthew will be a sophomore at Florida Atlantic University Honor's College in Jupiter, Florida.

I am a graduate of Rowan University in New Jersey with a BA in English/Secondary Education. Rowan used to be the New Jersey State Teachers College of Glassboro and has gone through several name changes since its original conception. I have always wanted to say that the reason I became a teacher was my love of children. Actually, I was never good with children. My desire to teach came from my love of literature. I wanted to inspire students with my passion for reading. Then, guess what happened? I fell in love with the students. They have inspired me in so many ways. The children make me laugh, and I enjoy how they think. I look forward to teaching every day because of them.

English Language Arts:

This will be my fourth year teaching 8th grade ELA. I have learned so much from my students. The last year, we all learned that we can do hard things. This year, I want my students to know that they should set goals for themselves. This year's classroom motto will be "Never let anyone lower your goals." Our focus will be on the power of storytelling. I'm excited to hear about each of my student's stories.

DeSoto Central Middle:

This is my sixth year teaching at DCMS. I enjoyed getting to know my students and helping them to transition to high school. That's one thing about teaching eighth grade, the students move on and you hope they are doing well in high school. Transitioning to high school is a big deal. We will discuss many things about high school throughout the year and how I can help make that transition as smooth as possible.
