About the Teacher

Education and Experience:

This will be my third year teaching at DCMS! I received my BA in Elementary Education with endorsements in Special Education, Science, and Social Studies.  I also have obtained a specialty license in Gifted and am in a Master’s program focused on the unique needs of Gifted Learners.

Personal Info:

As a former gifted student, I always knew my calling was to be a teacher of gifted students. I love the SPOTLIGHT program here at DCMS, and I am so excited for your child to be in my class!

I have coached gymnastics, cheerleading, and tumbling for the last 15 years, and I hope to bring the same level of energy and enthusiasm into my classroom.  I am also an avid yoga practitioner as well as a RYT 200 certified yoga instructor; I believe wellness begins within and try to teach my students the importance of tuning in and listening to their bodies’ needs. I love listening to all types of music, and I believe music is a wonderful classroom component to enhance students’ learning.

In my classroom, I strive to promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect.  I work hard to build a sense of community among my students and emphasize the importance of teamwork.  I often refer to my classes as “families,” and I hope that your child finds my classroom to be a safe space and a home away from at home while at school.  I value cooperation and collaboration in my classroom, and I also recognize the essential component of collaboration and cooperation between teacher and parents.  I’d love to hear any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, or concerns you have that can make this year even more successful for your child.  I believe GREAT things happen when we work together!

I am a proud dog mom. My boxer, Joplin, turned 8 this summer, and my French bulldog, Mila, will be 1 in September.  Your children will hear LOTS about my “babies” throughout the year, and I may share some funny pictures and videos too.

I believe it is important to remember that even as a teacher, we are always learning, growing, and improving.

I cannot wait to get to know each of you better as the school year begins!  GO JAGS!
