Specialized Plan OTeaching Learners Including Gifted and Highly Talented

**Gifted students and students with high abilities need specialized programs that will challenge and provide enrichment opportunities. Our SPOTLIGHT program is designed to maximize our gifted students' potential and to allow them to make continuous advancement in school. The learning goals of our SPOTLIGHT class are to enhance: thinking skills, creativity, group dynamics, communication, research, visual/performing arts, social-emotional awareness, and career awareness. Our curriculum is designed to spark an excitement for learning and to impress upon students the value and importance of a strong mind.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and my Master of Education degree in Gifted Studies from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS. I obtained my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification in 2007.

I have eighteen plus years of teaching experience, with most of these years being in DeSoto County Schools.

I grew up in West Point, Mississippi. (Go Green Wave!) My dad is a retired teacher and coach. My mom is enjoying retirement from BancorpSouth.

I am absolutely blessed with a precious family. My husband, Adam, is an artist and art teacher at Riverwood Elementary School in Shelby County. We have been married for nineteen happy years. We have two beautiful children. Hudson is ten years old and is in fifth grade at DCES. Emery is eight years old and is in third grade at DCES. We are active members of DeSoto Hills Baptist Church in Southaven.

I am a BIG sports fan! I love college sports especially. (Hail State!) I also enjoy watching professional baseball and football. Not to brag, but I am a repeating fantasy football champion!

Teaching is one of my passions. I feel blessed to be a part of DCMS. I am extremely excited about this school year, and I look forward to the many wonderful learning experiences that are in store!
